An exhibition titled "Mihri Müşfik and Istanbul" was opened at London Yunus Emre Enstitüsü on March 8th on occasion of World Women's Day.

The opening event of the exhibition, supported by the Turkish Consulate General in London, Turkish Embassy to London Culture, Tourism and Promotion Consultancy and British Turkish Women's Association, was attended by TRNC London Commissioner Zehra Başaran, Turkish artists and exhibition's curator Terry Katalan, the culture and art circles in England and a large number of art lovers.

The oil paintings by members of "Istanbul Women Artists Association" depict the historical monuments in Istanbul such as Galata Tower, Hagia Sophia Museum and Maiden's Tower as well as contemporary Turkish female figures.

With the exhibition featuring more than 30 paintings, the first female artist to make contemporary art in Turkey, Mihri Müşfik is commemorated.

The first Turkish painter who painted Mustafa Kemal Atatürk's portrait, Mihri Müşfik also painted portraits of well-known figures of her period such as Pope XV. Benedict.

The exhibition can be visited at London Yunus Emre Enstitüsü until March 30th.
