Our Cultural and Scientific Relations with Algeria Intensify

The Yunus Emre Institute hosted an official delegation of Algerian rectors and academicians in Turkey between 20-25 March 2018 within the context of the Turkish Academic and Scientific Cooperation Project (TABİP) which it conducts in the field of science diplomacy under the auspices of the Presidency.

Visiting Turkey upon the invitation of the Yunus Emre Institute and composed of  Prof. Derradji Said, Prof. Hamidi Youcef,  Prof. Ghuechi Kheir, Prof. Abdelmadjid Chikhi, Prof. Allaoui Hamid, Prof. Kerroum Boumediene, Prof. Chakib Benafri, Prof. Kaced Assia, Prof. Zerdaoui Fatiha and Assoc. Dr. Habiba Difallah Fergani, the delegation held important discussions in various parts of  Turkey.    

The delegation met with the Rectors of Manisa Celal Bayar and Malatya İnönü universities along with local governors there, in addition to meeting with the President of the Institute Prof. Or. Şeref Ateş in the Istanbul leg of the visit.

The delegation took part in Nowruz celebrations in Manisa and signed various agreements with the Celal Bayar University aiming at extensive  scientific cooperation.

Proceeding to Malatya afterwards, the delegation visited the Mobile Mathematics Museum, launched under TABİP project, and the Technopark of  the İnönü University. Following a briefing by Technopark Director Assoc. Dr. Fatih Kocamaz, the delegation also paid a visit to the Turgut Özal Medical Center of the İnönü University and had an opportunity to closely study the operation of the world’s second, Europe’s most advanced liver transplantation center there.

The visit of the Algerian official delegation provided an opportunity for the expansion of scientific interaction areas between the universities of the two countries, which included in particular support by Algerian authorities for the studies of Turkish researchers in Algerian state archives.

The Yunus Emre Institute has cooperation agreements on Turkology with Algeria 2 University, which is the second oldest university in the Arab world after Cairo University, Medea Yahya Fares University, Constantine Amir Abdulkadir University and Setif 2 Universitiy. More than 1000 students, 30 of them postgraduate, are taking Turkish Language and Literature courses in those universities in the academic sense. More than 300 Algerian citizens are also learning Turkish language in the courses supported by the Yunus Emre Institute.  There are  57 universities in Algeria and cooperation requests from various other universities in different cities are also being currently assessed.
