The 2nd Trainers' Training Program kicks off in cooperation with the MoNE and UNICEF

Yunus Emre Institute has organized the "Teaching Turkish as a Foreign Language" Trainers' Training Program in cooperation with the Ministry of National Education (MoNE) Lifelong Learning Directorate General and the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF).

The teachers who work at the Turkish language courses given in the Adult Education Centers within the scope of the Intensive Training Project (ITP), conducted in cooperation with the Ministry of National Education (MoNE) Lifelong Learning Directorate General and the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), will receive training on teaching Turkish as a foreign language as part of the training program organized by Yunus Emre Institute.

The program was attended by 61 teachers who are actively working under the Intensive Training Project (ITP), which seeks to improve educational opportunities of Syrian children and help Syrian who are under temporary protection integrate with society.

During the program held at Başkent Teacher's Lodge on February 26, 2019, MoNE Lifelong Learning Directorate General Social Partners and Projects Department ITP Project Assistant Coordinator Suna Tarhan and UNICEF Officer Gözde Öztürk Nur and Yunus Emre Institute Turkish Teaching Director Prof. Dr. Yavuz Kartallıoğlu delivered keynote speeches.

In her speech, ITP Project Assistant Coordinator Suna Tarhan stated that their objective is to introduce initially 20,000 and eventually 50,000 Syrian children aged between 10 and 18 under temporary protection in our country to the formal education system through remedial training.

UNICEF Officer Gözde Öztürk Nur noted that the programs are being implemented at 75 Adult Training Centers in 12 provinces. She underlined that the ITP component of the Non-formal Education Program has been undertaken in cooperation with the MoNe, adding that the aim is to make sure that 20,000 refugee children complete the relevant levels of the ITP before they are send to the formal and non-formal educational opportunities based on their ages.

Yunus Emre Institute Turkish Teaching Director Prof. Dr. Yavuz Kartallıoğlu underlined that they are glad to share the Institute's experience in teaching Turkish as a foreign language. Pointing out that they conduct various activities at more than points of contact abroad, Kartallıoğlu stated that they will continue to make contributions to the activities designed to help Syrians under temporary protection overcome the language barrier.

During the program to be held in Ankara between February 26 and March 1, 2019, the participants will attend theoretical and practical training given by Yunus Emre Institute's experts and academics.

•             Methods and Approaches,

•             Use of Cultural Elements and Intercultural Interaction,

•             Games in Teaching Turkish,

•             Using Drama Techniques in Teaching Turkish,

•             Material Selection and Preparation,

•             Teaching Reading and Writing,

•             Test Preparation, Implementation and Assessment Techniques,

•             Effective Use of Technology in Language Teaching.
