Results of the Turkish Proficiency Exam announced

Yunus Emre Institute has published the results of the year's first Turkish Proficiency Exam (TYS), which was held on Saturday, January 26, 2019. The number of successful candidates was 978 and the success rate was 88 percent. 1,136 candidates attended the exam held simultaneously at 41 exam centers in 35 countries. The highest rate of participation in the exam was in Baku.

The TYS measured the applicants reading and listening skills in the first session, writing skills in the second session and speaking skills in the third session. The applicants who were seeking to certify their proficiency in the Turkish language were given Turkish Proficiency Certificates at B2, C1 and C2 levels based on their scores from the exam.

The TYS is designed to provide an international exam for Turkish and facilitate the policies of admitting foreign students, and those who can obtain Turkish Proficiency Certificates by taking the TYS can be exempt from attending the Turkish preparatory training when they became eligible to attend a university in Turkey. The Turkish Proficiency Certificate provide huge advantages not only for students, but also for those who seek to work in Turkish or at international Turkish companies, those who want to work as translators or interpreters and prospective teachers who seen to teach Turkish abroad.

978 successful candidates, 88 percent success rate

In the first TYS exam held in 2019, 978 candidates were successful, with a success rate of 88 percent. Of the candidates who took the exam, 10.65 percent (118 candidates) were entitled to be given B2 level Turkish Proficiency Certificates while the rate of the candidates who were entitled to C1 and C2 level certificates were 54.60 percent (605 candidates) and 23 percent (255 candidates), respectively.

Intense interest in Turkish universities from Azerbaijanis

The TYS primarily appeal to the students who have taken the Foreign Student Exam (YÖS) and wish to attend the universities in Turkey. The Azerbaijani students who wish to study in Turkey and who have been successful in the YÖS show great interest in the TYS. By obtaining Turkish Proficiency Certificates, they seek to be exempt from the Turkish language preparatory training of the universities they will attend in Turkey.

The candidates were primarily young people aged between 17 and 25, and the appeal to the exam was intense around the globe. The exam was held simultaneously at 41 exam centers in 35 countries, with Baku securing the highest rate of participation. The number of candidates who attended the exam in Baku was 768, compared to 536 candidates who took the exam in January last year. In terms of participation, Baku was followed by Ankara, where 88 candidates took the exam. The cities with the highest rates of participation in the exam included Turkistan, Cologne, Ganja and Tokyo, in descending order.

Next TYS slated for May 18, 2019

The next TYS will be held on May 18, 2019 and the deadline for application for it is March 18, 2019.
