The Academy Rumelia-5 Project, conducted by the Rumelia Academy Education and Culture Association in partnership with the Presidency for Turks Abroad and Related Communities (YTB), and Yunus Emre Institute's Shkodër Branch, under the auspices of the Governorate of Editor of the Republic of Turkey, has ended. Albania participated in it for the first time.

As part of the Academy Rumelia project, 168 young people from 12 countries, namely Turkey, Albania, Greece, Bulgaria, Crimea, Ukraine, Gagauzia, Kosovo, North Macedonia, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina have attended workshops on literature, visual arts, drama, cinema, culture, media communication, gastronomy and music in Turkey for five days and had a chance to become acquainted with Turkey and Turkish culture.

The closing ceremony held at Edirne Public Education Center on July 26, 2019 was attended by Edirne Governor Ekrem Canalp and Deputy Mayor Yaver Tetik and many guests.

The ceremony took start with the standing in silence and recital of the Turkish national anthem, followed by the screening of videos about the work conducted as part of Academy Rumelia. The student representatives from 11 countries and the workshop masters expressed their views about the program, and the closing speech was delivered by Governor Canalp.

Canalp indicated that the students who attended the project have demonstrated to how to act in unity. "Do not think that it is just you who have learned something during the last five days here. Yes, you have learned something. But, at the same time, you have taught us something. You have taught us that we all are actually one, part of the whole. In my opinion, this is the greatest gain for Academy Rumelia," he said.

Following his speech, Governor Canalp gave certificates of attendance to the participant representatives and trainers. During the project, a culture night for two different countries was held each day of the project, and the last night belonged to Albania and Bulgaria. Pogonishte, Kukes and Tropoja dances, staged in Albanian traditional attire and in the company of traditional Albanian music, garnered interested in the audience. At the end of the program, Emre Çam-led Rumelia Orchestra gave a concert.

The participants had a chance to attend a cultural trip to Çanakkale, where one of the most important battles in the Turkish history was fought heroically. The young people visited Çanakkale Martyrs' Memorial, the 57th Regiment War Cemetery and Martyr Corporal Seyit Memorial, witnessing the history rife with heroic deeds. As they were visiting Çanakkale Martyrs' Memorial, some participants saw the city and people names from their own countries on the gravestones, which filled them with emotion.

In the last day of Academy Rumelia-5, the participants camped in Edirne's Gökçetepe Natural Park. During the camp, the young people attended sports activities and had fun to their hearts' content.

The program also enabled Balkan communities to get to know each other, and the students returned to their respective countries with unique memories concerning the Turkish culture and would act as ambassadors of Turkey in their countries.
