Classical Turkish Music Tunes in Vienna

The Dü-Şems Ensemble, consisting of musicians working for the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Turkey, has performed classical Turkish music songs in Vienna, the capital of Austria.

Having Emre Erdal (classical kemençe), Osman Kırklıkçı (oud), Dr. Osman Öksüzoğlu (rhythm) and Hakkı Gürsoy Dinçer (hanende) as its members, the Dü-Şems Ensemble performed a selection of classical Turkish music songs, composed in the 17th and 18th centuries, for music lovers at Borromäus Hall in i Vienna on November 15, 2019.

The concert showcased songs in different forms and makams from composers including Benli Hasan Ağa, Selim III, Mahmut II, Hacı Sadullah Ağa, Tab’i Mustafa Efendi and Dede Efendi, garnering a great deal of attention from the audience.

Commenting on the concert, hosted by Yunus Emre Institute's Vienna Branch, Kemençevi (kemençe player) Emre Erdal noted that the ensemble seeks to promote Turkish music abroad and expressed his satisfaction over the attention the concert secured.
