Countdown to the “Voice of 1000 Years: Turkish Festival”

Held for the sixth time since it started by Yunus Emre Institute, Turkish Language Summer School currently hosts around 500 attendees from 38 countries in various cities of Turkey, who are visiting Turkey to learn Turkish.

Turkish Language Summer School 2015 will close with “The Voice of 1000 Years: Turkish Language Festival” event on 22 August with the participation of esteemed President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

“The Voice of 1000 Years: Turkish Language Festival”, to be held under the auspices of Presidency of Turkey and with the main sponsorships of Turkish Airlines and Vakıfbank, will take place in Ülker Sports Arena located in Istanbul Ataşehir on 22 August Saturday at 14.00pm. A large turnout is expected both from home and abroad.

The Festival receives support also from Turkcell, Prime Ministry of Republic of Turkey Turkish Cooperation and Development Agency (TİKA), Prime Ministry of Republic of Turkey Presidency for Turks Abroad and Related Communities, Republic of Turkey Ministry of Culture and Tourism, TRT, Ziraat Bank, Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, TÜRKSOY, Ankara Metropolitan Municipality, and Bursa Metropolitan Municipality.

2015 Turkish Language Summer School commenced on 27 July Monday, not only aims to teach Turkish to the students but also to introduce them to Turkey and Turkish culture. Turkish Language Summer School project is carried out with collaboration of Turkish Language Instruction and Application Centers of Ankara, İstanbul, Pamukkale, Eskişehir Osmangazi, Adnan Menderes, Sakarya, Nevşehir Hacı Bektaş Veli, Gaziantep, Bülent Ecevit and Kocaeli Universities. Students elected for the summer school attend activities organized in 11 cities including Istanbul, and both get the chance to improve their Turkish and to be closely acquainted with Turkish culture.

Turkish Language Summer School features Turkish language course, culture-arts activities, excursions and social activities, and will close with The Voice of 1000 Years: Turkish Language Festival.

200 Turcology students in Istanbul and around 300 students in Bursa, Samsun, Kocaeli, Sakarya, Eskişehir, Gaziantep, Denizli, Aydın, Zonguldak and Nevşehir cities, have received Turkish lessons and visited the popular tourist destinations of their respective cities and neighboring cities as part of project.

Students got the chance to find out about the authentic beauty and cultural features of cities on site, from local cuisines of various regions to traditional handicrafts.

Having expressed their fascination with Turkey and especially with Turkish cuisine, they stated that they feel lucky to be a part of a project as such and glad they could continue their Turkish language journey in Turkey which they started in their home countries.

Students in mentioned cities will meet in Istanbul on 18 August Tuesday, and get the chance to visit historical and cultural monuments of the city. School will close with Turkish Language Festival event on 22 August Tuesday.
