Fourth International İstanbulensis Poetry Festival Ended

Organised for the fourth time this year, Fourth International İstanbulensis Poetry Festival brought together poetry enthusiast in various venues in Istanbul with participation of 38 poets from 15 countries between May 26-29, 2016 under the auspices of Sultanbeyli Municipality and with support from Prime Ministry Promotion Fund, Yunus Emre Enstitüsü, TİKA, Ministry of Culture and Tourism, and Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality.

In its fourth stop, International İstanbulensis Poetry Festival draws attention to the collective tragedy of humanity, immigration/ displacement/ statelessness. Theme of the festival is “Migration”. The honorary guest of this years is the poet of Gaza Epistle Cahit Koytak.

Opening ceremony of the festival was held on May 26th Thursday in Sultanbeyli Cultural Centre. Figures as Cahit Koytak, Ali Ural, Mustafa Fırat, Esra Elönü attended the opening ceremony in which poets such as Abdullah Botani from Somali, Amir Darwish from Syria, Dejbani Chatterje from India, and Muhetaer Bogela from Urumchi read their poems.

International İstanbulensis Poetry Festival hosted young people for three days with “Poets in Schools” events and on the last day of the festival, nature and poetry came together in Aydos Castle in an event titled “Literature and Poetry in Aydos”. The closing ceremony of the festival was held in Sultanbeyli Culture Centre on May 28th Saturday.
