Global Public Diplomacy Network Grows Rapidly

The sixth General Assembly meeting of the Global Public Diplomacy Network (GPDNet) was held in Qatar between January 20 and 22, 2020.

The members of the Global Public Diplomacy Network, established by the public and cultural diplomacy institutions including Yunus Emre Institute in Seoul in 2014, have convened at the 6th General Assembly meeting under the presidency of the Katara Cultural Village Foundation.

In connection with the 6th General Assembly meeting of the Global Public Diplomacy Network, term presidency of which had been undertaken by Yunus Emre Institute between 2016 and 2019, other events including a youth gathering, various conferences on public diplomacy, trips and museums visits were also organized. The number of the members of the Global Public Diplomacy Network increased from 14 to 22 with the addition of five permanent members and three associated members this year.

During the meeting, a signature ceremony was held for the new members: International Center for Peace (Bosnia and Herzegovina), Ukrainian Institute (Ukraine), National Heritage Council (South Africa), Forum 4444 (Serbia), The Lion’s Heart Help Group (Kenya), LEPL Creative Georgia (Georgia), National Department for Culture (Malaysia), and Research Center for International Relations (Cuba).

Dr. Khaled bin Ibrahim Al-Sulaiti, the head of the Katara Cultural Village Foundation and the GPDNET, stated that they created an electronic portal for facilitating contact among all members and this would allow more reliable and quality services to be provided.

During the program, the new website of the GPDNET was also launched.
