Göbeklitepe from Its Discovery to Our Time in Georgia

Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia, has been home to the fourth leg of "Turkey Week," themed as "Göbeklitepe: Humans and Life," in 2019.

Yunus Emre Institute undertook various events within the framework of Turkey Week, centering on Göbeklitepe, the world's oldest temple and referred to as zero point of history, between November 6 and 9, 2019.

Göbeklitepe Conference And Exhibition

Şanlıurfa Museum Director and Göbeklitepe Excavation Committee Chairman Celal Uludağ briefed the participants about information and visuals that would shed light on human history during the conference entitled "Zero Point of History: Göbeklitepe," held at the National Museum of Georgia.

At the exhibition unveiled following the conference, the historical voyage of Göbeklitepe from its discovery to our time has been presented to the taste of resident of Tbilisi.

Music Masterclass With Cellist Uğur Işık

On the second day of Turkey Week, Cellist Uğur Işık, a virtuoso of Turkish music, met 12 students who were receiving music education in Georgia. The participants attended the Music Masterclass he gave at the State Conservatory of Georgia, and had a chance to play Turkish tunes under the direction of Uğur Işık.

Gap From Past To Present

The second day ended with the "GAP from Past to Present with Photographs" exhibition, curated by the Southeastern Anatolia Region (GAP) Regional Development Administration. In the exhibition unveiled at Tbilisi State University, the historical and cultural affinity between the two countries was stressed. The exhibition featuring photographs taken in various cities across Southeastern Anatolia region will be open to visitors for two weeks.

Traditional Turkish Delicacies

On the third day of Turkey Week, the traditional Turkish cuisine from Anatolia, home to ancient civilizations, was promoted for the students of Tbilisi State University. The richness and gastronomy culture of the Turkish cuisine were been presented to taste of the participants with the treats prepared by Turkish chefs Şehmus Acar and Ecem Şencan.

Anatolian Spirit

The third of Turkey Week also saw the concert entitled "Spirit of Anatolia," conducted by Cellist Uğur Işık. Işık was accompanied by Ferruh Avni Yarkın, Mustafa Doğan Dikmen and Umut Sel. The concert took place in the State Conservatory of Georgia and the tunes from different regions of Anatolia performed during the concert attracted a great deal of attention.

Turkish Cuisine Workshop

Turkey Week in Tbilisi ended with the Turkish Cuisine Workshop, held in Tashre Restaurant, under the direction of Chef Şehmus Acar and Ecem Şencan. The event was attended by 21 people including Georgian chefs, gastronomy students and culinary bloggers. The participants had a chance to learn how to cook traditional Turkish dishes, Hünkar Beğendi, peynir tatlısı and basil sherbet with a hands-on approach and the dishes were offered to the participants at the end of the workshop.  The program was quite popular among local media outlets and aired live on Georgia's IMEDI TV.
