Some 200 students have registered for the in-person Turkish courses at the Yunus Emre Institute, opened in Kigali, the capital of Rwanda.

Before the lessons started at Kigali Yunus Emre Institute, an event was held on December 10, 2021 with the participation of high level officials, including Turkey's Ambassador in Rwanda Burcu Çevik.

In her speech at the event, Ambassador Çevik mentioned her pleasure in finding many students who want to learn Turkish in Kigali. Çevik also announced that Turkish Maarif Foundation was planning to establish a vocational school in Rwanda.

In his speech at the event, Kigali Yunus Emre Institute Director Enes Karaçoban stated that approximately 200 students registered for the in-person Turkish courses of the Institute at the University of Rwanda.

Karaçoban mentioned that there was great interest towards the courses and said, "We have two classes at our building in the Gikonda Campus of the University in Kigali. One class is used for day classes and the other for night classes."

The Institute Director Karaçoban said that it was exciting to see the daily increase in the number of people who want to learn the Turkish language and who are interested in Turkish culture. Karaçoban also mentioned that Yunus Emre Institute explained Turkish culture to Rwandans by organizing activities such as film screenings, interviews and cuisine culture events.

THERE ARE ALSO THOSE WHO COME FROM DIFFERENT COUNTRIES

Karaçoban mentioned that 75% of those who applied to the Turkish courses were university students and the rest was the working class and said that students came from different countries such as the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Pakistan, Tunisia, the Comoros and Burundi.

Rwandan Hassan Mbarushimina, who returned to his country after receiving education in Turkey, shared information about Turkey in his presentation at the event, accompanied by a video comprised of beautiful scenery from Turkey.

Kigali Yunus Emre Institute could not hold any in-person Turkish courses since the start of 2021, when it became operational, due to the Covid-19 restrictions. The online courses of the Institute received great interest, and about 150 students participated in the courses.
