"Lights of Al-Quds" Meet its Roots

The documentary film entitled "Kudüs'ün Işıkları" (Lights of Al-Quds), directed by Abdülgafur Şahin, has been screened in East Jerusalem.

The screening was hosted by Yunus Emre Institute's Turkish Cultural Center in Jerusalem and was attended by the officials from the Consulate General of the Republic of Turkey to Palestine in Jerusalem, the Palestinian children who took part in the documentary film and numerous guests.

The 27-minute short documentary film is about how the holy month of Ramadan is experienced in Jerusalem and its production has been completed this year with support from the Culture and Tourism Ministry of the Republic of Turkey and under the sponsorship of Bağcılar Municipality.

After the screening of the film, produced by Aybala Hilal Yüksel with screenplay by Melis Şahin, its director Abdülgafur Şahin made comments on the film.

Şahin indicated that the story of the film started when he visited Jerusalem during the holy month of Ramadan in 2017 and saw an extremely lively and cheerful city with its lights, fast-breaking (iftar) dinners and predawn (sahur) meals contrary to what is depicted in the media. With the film shot in order to bring this enthusiasm and affection to more people, he said, they intend to encourage the audience to visit Jerusalem.

The world premiere of "Kudüs'ün Işıkları" had been done on April 29 in St. Louis, Missouri, the US while it was debuted in Turkey on May 3 in Istanbul.
