Mentally Disabled Students Experience the Art of Marbling in China
Yunus Emre Institute (YEI) organized a marbling art workshop for mentally disabled students receiving special education in Beijing, the capital of China.
In the workshop taught by Turkish artist Suna Koçal, students had the opportunity to experience the art of marbling first-hand.
At the event held at the non-profit Golden Wings Rehabilitation Center, paintings containing Turkish motifs prepared by the students of the center were exhibited.
YEI Beijing Coordinator Ali Oğuzhan Yüksel made a presentation introducing Türkiye to the students before the event.
Artist Suna Koçal took care of the students one by one during the workshop and helped them perform this art. It was observed that the students experienced intense enthusiasm from experiencing the art of marbling.
"Marbling is a complete art of therapy"
Li Yühan, who has down syndrome and is one of the students who painted marbling, stated that he found the workshop very interesting and that seeing the painting emerge with a simple touch made him happy.
Stating that he attaches importance to meeting mentally disabled people and people with Down syndrome in the different countries he visits and organizing workshops for them, , "Marbling is a true therapy art. They are unconditioned hearts. They can express their joy and feelings directly. They reflect beautifully the flow of love and the enthusiasm that the art of marbling gives them,” Koçal said.
Stating that he is happy to practice the art of marbling in Chinese territory, "Marbling is an art practiced by Uyghur Turks for the first time, so it does not come from these lands. I am very happy to introduce this ancient Turkish art to the Chinese, and . It was very important for me to mediate in establishing a bond of love with them through art," Koçal said.
