“Mourning of Muharram in Ottoman Empire” Program in Baku

The “Mourning of Muharram in Ottoman Empire” program organized by Yunus Emre Enstitüsü, Baku took place in Rashid Behbudov State Song Theatre on November 13, 2015.

Project Chief Art Director and Curator Murat Özer orchestrated the program that includes an exhibition titled “Traces of Ahl al-Bayt and Karbala in Turkish Art”, and a concert, “Mourning of Muharram in Ottoman Civilization”. Âyân Musikî Topluluğu will recite in poetry and freeform the “Karbala elegy”, which has an important part of the Turkish music and literature history.

Ahl al-Bayt hymns composed as elegies for the month of Muharram will be performed solo and by chorus. The religious leader of the Caucasian Muslims, Sheikh ul-Islam and Grand Mufti of the Caucasus Allahshukur Pashazadeh attended the concert.
