Opening Ceremony of 52nd Library Week held in Ankara

Organised by the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism, "52nd Library Week "was opened on March 28th  Mondaywith  Yunus Emre Enstitü's contributions.

After the opening conference by writer Rasim Özdenören held at the National Library Conference Hall, the panel  "Common Memory of the Balkan countries: Libraries" was moderated by Manuscripts Institute President Prof. Dr.  Muhittin Macit. Kırklareli University Lecturer Ahmet Altay, Sarajevo Gazi Hüsrevbey Library Director Osman Lavi? and Lejla Gazic who made compilations of Balkans manuscripts were among panel lecturers.

Dr. Altay particularly touched upon the importance of the monasteries in library culture of Bulgaria. Osman Lavi? mentioned the contributions of figures such as Suzi Çelebi, İshak Bey and Gazi Husrev Bey in librarianship in the Balkans. Lavi? said that in these lands, more than 10,000 volumes of were published by the authors directly influenced by the Ottoman civilization, and only 5 percent of these works could be saved from the wars in the last 200 years and Yunus Emre Enstitüsü made major contributions in transferring these to the digital environment.

 Leyla Gazic, with numerous studies on manuscripts in the Balkans, explained that this heritage featuring miniatures, calligraphy, and photocopies is referred to as “Manskripta Turkika” and she emphasized that these works have major significance for Bosnian history.
