Third "Turkey Days" Event Held in Tirana

The third instance of the "Turkey Days" event, Yunus Emre Institute's Tirana Branch has been organizing since 2017, has been launched for Albanian people.

The "Turkey Days" event, held in Tirana's historic Skanderbeg Square between October 18 and 20, 2019, featured traditional handicrafts as well as Turkish music motifs and unique delicacies of Turkish cuisine at the booths that were open all through the day.

The visitors had a chance to taste select dishes from Turkish cuisine like döner kebab, pilaf with meat, sherbet, Turkish delight, baklava, sütlü helva, and drink Turkish tea and Turkish coffee. They also had the opportunity to examine closely the products of traditional handicrafts, exhibited by the municipalities from Turkey. The event was also attended by the neighboring countries, and a different feature of Anatolia was showcased at every evening. Istanbul State Turkish Folk Music Choir gave a concert with a repertoire of folk songs from different regions, whereas Şanlıurfa Municipality staged a Sıra Gecesi event for Albanians. In the last evening of the event that brought the colors of Anatolia to the streets of Tirana, Trabzon Horon Ensemble showcased the traditional folk dances of the Eastern Black Sea region.

The event supported by the Turkish embassy in Tirana was attended by Tirana Municipality, Bursa Metropolitan Municipality, Şanlıurfa Metropolitan Municipality, Konya Metropolitan Municipality, Kahramanmaraş Metropolitan Municipality, İstanbul Beyoğlu Municipality, Trabzon Ortahisar Municipality, Yunus Emre Institute's Tirana Branch, the Archers' Foundation, the Maarif Foundation of Turkey, Turkey Alumni Association of Albanians, Global Lojistik and Turkish food companies operating in Tirana.

At the opening ceremony of the event, Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey to Tirana Murat Ahmet Yörük, Republic of Turkey Beyoğlu Mayor Haydar Ali Yıldız and Republic of Albania Tirana Mayor Erion Veliaj delivered keynote speeches, placing emphasis on the role of Turkish language courses as well as cultural and artistic activities organized by Yunus Emre Institute in promoting the bilateral relations. It was underscored that the cultural heritage shared with younger generations will reinforce the historical ties between the two countries.
