Turkish Cinema Week in Saint Petersburg

The "Turkish Cinema Week" event was held in Saint Petersburg, Russia, as part of the 2019 Turkey-Russia Mutual Culture and Tourism Year.

The "Turkish Cinema Week" event, organized by Yunus Emre Institute's Moscow Branch with support from the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism General Directorate of Cinema and the Turkish Consulate General in Saint Petersburg, kicked off at Rodina Cinema.

Opened with the screening of "Uzun Hikaye" (A Long Story), directed by Osman Sınav, on June 17, 2019, the event was attended by Consul General of Azerbaijan to Saint Petersburg, the diplomatic staff from the same consulate general, Turkologists, Turkology students and many Russian guests.

At the beginning of the event, Consul General of the Republic of Turkey to Saint Petersburg Yunus Belet and Yunus Emre Institute's Moscow Branch delivered keynote speeches.

During the three-day festival, "Bal" (Honey), directed by Semih Kaplanoğlu, "Sarı Sıcak"(Yellow Heat), scripted and directed by Fikret Reyhan, "Selvi Boylum Al Yazmalım" (The Girl with the Red Scarf), a masterpiece directed by Atıf Yılmaz, "Kalandar Soğuğu" (Cold of Kalandar), scripted and directed by Mustafa Kara with Bilal Sert, "Yozgat Blues", a tragicomic film scripted by Mahmut Fazıl Coşkun and Tarık Tufan, and "Ertuğrul 1980," a film on two real stories, directed by Mitsutoshi Tanaka with Prof. Dr. İskender Pala acting as a history advisor, were screened.
