Turkish Film Week to Visit London for Second Time

The second instance of London Turkish Film Week will be held between April 24 and 30.

The Turkish Film Week continues in London, the capital of the United Kingdom, curated with support from the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism General Directorate of Cinema.

The 2nd Turkish Film Week event will be attended by renowned directors, players, screenwriters and film critics and bring a slew of Turkish films to the moviegoers in London. The event will feature Turkish films as well as documentaries and short films released this year and it will be hosted by historic Regent Street Cinema, King’s College, SOAS University of London, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, and Yunus Emre Institute's London Branch.

During the talk on the Turkish series to be held as part of the event, the veteran actress of Yeşilçam, Esra Bilgiç Töre, Perihan Savaş and the rising young talent of Turkish series, Emre Kızılırmak, will meet moviegoers.

The 2nd Turkish Film Week, showcasing 11 feature films as well as short films, documentaries and interviews, will take start with the screening of the documentary entitled "Bırakın Çocuk Oynasın" (Let the Kid Play) at SOAS University of London on April 24, 2019. On April 25, a talk will be organized on the "Turkish Series," with the participation of the veteran actress of Yeşilçam, Perihan Savaş, and the rising young talent of Turkish series, Emre Kızılırmak. The famous actress and actor will talk about their experience and memories about Turkish series.

"Çiçero," "Yozgat Blues," "Kardeşler" (Brothers), "Güvercin" (The Pigeon), "Yol Kenarı" (Sideway), "Paranın Kokusu" (The Smell of Money) and "Türk İşi Dondurma" (Turkish Ice Cream), debuted in Europe during the opening of the 2nd Turkish Film Week, will be aired. After the screenings, famed directors including Serdar Akar, Ömür Atay, Murat Düzgünoğlu, Banu Sıvacı, Tayfun Pirselimoğlu and Ahmet Boyacıoğlu will answers questions on Turkish cinema.

The events on the last day of the 2nd Turkish Film Week will take place at the Arthur & Paula Lucas Theatre at Kings College, one of London's prestigious universities. The screenings of short films will be followed by a talk to be given by Iain R. Smith, an academic from Kings College who works on Turkish films.  

On the last day of the film week, the film, "Hudutların Kanunu" (The Law of the Border), directed by famous Turkish director Ömer Lütfi Akad, will be screened, followed by a talk on him with the attendance of Keya Anjaria, Ian R. Smith, and Philip Bergson.

The events, to be held in the UK after Albania, will continue with the Turkish Film Week in Toronto, Zagreb, Chicago and Kazan.
