Vanguards of motion picture industry to meet in Turkey

The 8th Malatya International Film Festival, organized by Malatya Metropolitan Municipality with support from the Republic of Turkey Culture and Tourism Ministry Cinema Directorate General and Malatya Governor's Office, has served as a gathering place for the leading figures of the film industry from around the world.

The festival will take place between November 9 and 15, 2018 with an assortment of events and activities where more than 100 domestic and foreign films will be aired and hundreds of cinema professionals, world-class actors and actresses, directors and sector vanguards will come together.

"Festivals in Malatya!"

The event "Festivals in Malatya!" will be held for the first time with support from Yunus Emre Institute during the 8th Malatya International Film Festival. The event will host the festival directors from Albania, Italy, Montenegro, Kosovo, Hungary and Macedonia in Malatya.

A panel will be held with the participation of the pacesetters of the sector, including Dea Film Festival Director Edmond Topi, Lecce European Film Festival Director Luigi la Monica, Montenegro Cinema General Manager Andro Martinovic, DokuFest Project Manager Nita Deda, Pristine Film Festival Director Vjosa Berisha and Art Director Fatos Berisha, Manaki Film Festival Program Coordinator Aneta Matovska and Miskolc Film Festival Art Director Geza Csakvari.

During the panel to be held on November 11, 2018 with the attendance of directors of international film festivals from six countries, the festivals will be briefly explained and the application and assessment processes for these festivals will be described.

Masters in jury

The international films will be rated by a jury chaired by Nuri Bilge Ceylan, who will talk about his experiences at the MasterClass.

The master director will be assisted in the jury by Italian producer and director Giulia Achilli and Croatian actress Ivana Roscic and academic Vernice Klier, who served as the acting coach for many leading actors and actresses including Sean Pean, Juliette Binoche, Monicca Belucci, Leonardo di Caprio, Vincent Cassel, Sophie Marceau and Gerard Depardieu. 

Guest country: Palestine

During the 8th Malatya International Film Festival, which will showcase the distinguished examples of the Turkish and world cinema, the feature films Wajib, Ghost Hunting and Writing on Snow as well as short films from Palestine, which is the guest country for the festival, will be screened.

The festival's "Horror Tunnel" section will air domestic and foreign horror films while the "Comedy Showcase" section will screen Arif V 216, directed by Cem Yılmaz. There will also be events to commemorate Chingiz Aitmatov and Tevfik Ismailov in the festival.

The "Honor Awards" of the Malatya International Film Festival will be presented to Şener Şen, Perran Kutman and Osman Sınav while make-up artist Derya Ergün will get the "Cinema Labor Award" and Hüseyin Yeşil and Cemal Okan will be awarded for their contribution to the Turkish cinema.
