World's archers to meet in Istanbul

16 archers (kemankeş) who champion Turkish archery to attend the World Mix Finals

The Kemankeş (Archers) Project, implemented by Yunus Emre Institute in collaboration with the Archers' Foundation, has brought together successful athletes from 16 countries in Istanbul.

The archers who have won the competitions held at the end of the training courses given in the Institute's branches abroad, will attend the world mix finals, slated for October 19.

Within the framework of the Kemankeş Project, which seeks to promote Turkish archery around the globe and raise new athletes, the archers will undergo special training at the facilities of the Archers' Foundation in Istanbul. Following the training based on the Turkish archery competition styles, 32 athletes will participate in the contest to be held on Friday, October 19.

A promotional ceremony will be held ahead of the competition with the participation of Bilal Erdoğan, the Founding Member of the Board of Trustees of the Archers' Foundation, Haydar Ali Yıldız, the Head of the Archers' Foundation and the Chief Adviser to President, and Prof. Dr. Şeref Ateş, the President of Yunus Emre Institute. Following the keynote speeches, the competition will be held and the award-winning archers will be presented their medals.

The program will end on Monday, October 22, and the archers who attend the competition and become eligible for certificates will work as trainers at the Turkish archery courses in their respective countries.

Kemankeş Project

The Kemankeş (Archer) Project was launched jointly by Yunus Emre Institute and the Archers' Foundation on October 19, 2017 with the aim of studying and promoting the historical, sportive, artistic, cultural and educational characteristics of the traditional Turkish archery and raising archers in this field for contributing to intercultural dialogue.

This international project has been implemented in Germany, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Morocco, Palestine, Iran, Japan, Qatar, Kazakhstan, Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, Lebanon, Malaysia, Egypt, Poland, Serbia, Sudan, and Jordan as of last year, and is planned to be extended to 25 countries in 2019.
