Yahya Kemal Beyatlı Commemorated in Skopje

The 5th International Yahya Kemal Beyatlı Turkish Poetry Festival has been held in Skopje, the capital of North Macedonia, to commemorate Yahya Kemal Beyatlı on the 61st anniversary of his death.

During the program organized at the historical Daut Pasha Hamam in Skopje's Old Bazaar with the participation of poets and poetry lovers from Turkey, North Macedonia, Kosovo, Azerbaijan, Gagauzia, Bulgaria, Romania and Bosnia and Herzegovina, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mehmet Samsakçı, a faculty member of the Faculty of Letters at Istanbul University, gave a lecture on the life and works of Yahya Kemal Beyatlı. The event also featured poem recitals from the poets attending the program from different regions and a Turkish classical music concert by the ensemble of Doğru Yol Turkish Culture and Art Association from Kosovo.

Several events organized by Yunus Emre Institute's Skopje Branch were also held within the framework of the program held by the Union of Turkish NGOs in Republic of Macedonia (MATÜSİTEB) with support from the Ministry of Culture of North Macedonia.

At an event hosted at the Institute, the book entitled "Türkçenin Nöbetini Tutmak, Zeynel Beksaç ve Şiiri" (On Watch for Turkish: Zeynel Beksaç and His Poetry), penned by Bahtiyar Aslan, a distinguished poet and writer of Turkish literature, was promoted. During the event, Istanbul University Faculty of Letters Deputy Dean Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mehmet Samsakçı and International Balkan University Research Assistant Seyhan Murtezan İbrahim shared their comments, and Bahtiyar Aslan gave advice to young people by talking about poetry and literature.

Within the context of the commemoration program, the Institute also unveiled the Yahya Kemal Beyatlı Photography Exhibition, featuring Beyatlı's private effects, handwritten notes, books and souvenir photos.
