Türkiye-Egypt "Media Meetings" Held in Cairo

"Media Meetings" program was held in Cairo by Yunus Emre Institute (YEI) in order to contribute to the development of media cooperation and strengthening of relations between Turkey and Egypt.

The program held in Cairo, the capital of Egypt, was attended by YEI Cultural Diplomacy Academy Coordinator Dr. Melih Barut, Cairo YEI Coordinator Emin Boyraz, representatives of Ihlas News Agency, NTV and Sabah from Türkiye, participants from Al Ahram, Gomhoreya, Al Shoroq newspapers from Egypt and members of the Egyptian Journalists Union attended.

At the "Media Meetings", the relations between Türkiye and Egypt in the field of media, the collaborations planned for the future and the initiatives that will take the media relations between the two countries to the next level were discussed.

In the program, Turkish and Egyptian media members presented their ideas in order for the two countries to get to know each other better and strengthen media relations. It was decided to increase cultural exchange, develop joint projects and establish a sustainable communication platform.

Cairo YEE Coordinator Emin Boyraz, whose speech in the program was included in the statement, said that the institute contributed to the strengthening of media relations between the two countries.

At the press conference of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan during his visit to Egypt, Boyraz stated that the center in Cairo was the center that attracted the most attention worldwide and made the following statements:

"The intense interest shown in Turkey, Turkish culture and the Turkish language stems from the deep ties between Türkiye and Egypt. For this reason, culture also emerges as an important topic when talking about the relations between the two countries. We believe that this meeting with Turkish and Egyptian media members will be beneficial and contribute to bilateral relations. We think it will contribute. Yunus Emre Institute has been a door to our Egyptian brothers for 14 years. This door is also wide open to our Egyptian media members."

YEE Cultural Diplomacy Academy Coordinator Dr. Melih Barut also stated that the program series called "Media Meetings" was organized for the 7th time and used the floowing expressions:

"When we put together what has been written about Egypt so far, we come to the following conclusion. Egypt is a special country for us. We have a lot of work to do within the historical and cultural framework. When we do a little research, we see that the names that shaped Turkey politically and culturally passed through Egypt. Among these names are special names such as Mehmet Akif Ersoy, the writer of our National Anthem, satire master Neyzen Tevfik, and Evliya Çelebi, who shaped almost the early Türkiye-Egypt relations."

Journalist Yavuz Donat also touched upon the role of the media in the development of relations between Türkiye and Egypt and the historical development of relations between the two countries.

Donat made the following evaluations: "We are in the great power of North Africa and the Islamic world. We are in Egypt, which is a world-scale power. In 1926, Türkiye’s diplomatic relations with Egypt were established and 90 Egyptian students came to Türkiye. The unbreakable friendship between Türkiye and Egypt continues.”

Mohamed Saad Abdelhafezz, Editor-in-Chief of Al-Shorouk Newspaper and Deputy Chairman of the Journalists' Union, explained that there are common aspects between Egypt and Turkey and made the following statement: "I believe that we can reveal issues that both countries can benefit from in terms of history, civilization and culture."

Following the "Media Meetings" program, Turkish media members visited Cairo YEI, the institute's first representative office in Africa. Turkish media members met with trainees learning Turkish at Cairo YEI, which is among the representative offices that receive the most applications for Turkish courses.

Trainees expressed their interest in Türkiye, Turkish culture and Turkish language and stated that they follow Turkish TV series with pleasure.

Trainees also shared their dreams of visiting Türkiye and experiencing Turkish culture with Turkish media members.

On the other hand, information about the activities carried out by the institute officials to the members of the media in order to introduce Turkish culture with all its riches since 2010, special courses emphasizing Türkiye's tourism potential, and career days organized for trainees who want to receive education and make a career in Türkiye, is provided with information about various events. was given.

In the last part of the program, a special event was organized by the Turkish Embassy in Cairo within the scope of "Turkish Cuisine Week", where Turkish breakfast was served with the participation of Turkish and Egyptian media members.

The program series called "Media Meetings" was held in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Albania, Romania, Venezuela and Mexico.
