The Adventure of Learning Turkish by Romania’s Former Prime Minister Ponta
Turkish language teaching activities organized by Yunus Emre Institute in Bucharest, the capital of Romania, are also popular among Romanian diplomats. Victor Ponta, the country's former prime minister, also takes Turkish lessons at Bucharest Yunus Emre Institute.
In his interview, Ponta, who can express himself very well in Turkish, said that he used to study Turkish for 10 minutes every day, but since he needed to study more, he came to the Bucharest Yunus Emre Institute and took Turkish lessons.
HE WON THE APPRECIATION OF PRESIDENT ERDOGAN'S
Ponta also mentioned a Turkish dialog between him and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. Ponta told President Erdoğan: "Mr. President, good evening; I am so happy right now. Because I speak Turkish." Ponta said that President Erdoğan welcomed his learning Turkish with great pleasure.
In January, Ponta attended the "Workshop on Media Literacy and Turkish in the Digital Age" organized by Yunus Emre Institute and RTÜK in Bucharest. Ponta also talked about his speech in Turkish at the workshop. Stating that he found the European languages he had learned so far quite easy, Ponta said, "English, French, and Italian are easy. But when I tried to speak Turkish for the first time, it was quite difficult. I was very excited."
Saying that he loves Turkey very much, Ponta shared some of his impressions from his travels as follows: "Istanbul is the most beautiful city in the world. The word beautiful is not enough to describe Mount Nemrut; it is a magnificent and wonderful place. I liked Şanlıurfa very much. For Romanians, Istanbul, Antalya, and Bodrum are beautiful and touristic. For me, history is more important."
