In the courses opened under the Yunus Emre Institute (YEI) Mexico Coordination Office, young people of all ages who are interested in Turkish culture take lessons in ney, rhythm and traditional Turkish music and have the opportunity to learn Turkish.

It is stated that the interest in Turkish courses at YEI, which includes weekday and weekend groups, is increasing day by day. 67 students receive education in the Turkish course and 38 students in the music course.

Under the conductorship of instructor Ferit Ziem, Mexican students accompanied the lesson with guitar, cello, flute, bendir and darbuka, and sang samples of Turkish music, including the songs "I am on a Long and Narrow Road” (Uzun İnce Bir Yoldayım), "On the Way to Üsküdar” (Üsküdar'a Giderken) and "Yedikule".

The soloist of the orchestra, Angelica Castro, accompanied the instrumental team by interpreting the songs without knowing Turkish.

Angelica Castro stated that she loves singing and became interested in Turkish by watching Turkish TV series.

"I don't know Turkish yet, but I learned the meanings of the songs. I looked up the meanings of the words. Turkish is a very beautiful language, Turkish music is also very beautiful. It has a different spirit. I will continue as much as possible." Castro, a 39-year-old mother of two children said.

"I communicate in Turkish with my wife's family living in Turkey"

Jessica Jimenez, a civil engineer who studied at YEI to learn Turkish, said that her husband is Turkish, but she does not speak Turkish at home to improve her Spanish.

"I could not learn Turkish because my wife did not speak Turkish at home to improve her Spanish. I started the course and now I can speak it better. Turkish is a very beautiful but very difficult language. It requires a lot of work." Jimenez stated that he was happy to communicate in Turkish with his wife's family living in Türkiye.

Explaining that he watches Turkish TV series whenever he gets the chance, Jimenez stated that TV series are important in the development of the language.

Mexican Young People Receive Training on Many Subjects, from Marbling to Turkish Cooking

The Institute's Turkish culture and history conferences are held both in the Institute building and in the Mexican Parliament Building. In the institution where marbling lessons are given, Turkish coffee day, one of the important flavors of Turkish culture, is also organized.

"Turkish Food Days" are held to teach how to cook Turkish dishes. Additionally, examples of Turkish films are presented to Mexican students during cinema days.

Students have the opportunity to improve their Turkish by reading books in the Institute's library with rich content.
