Tanzania Expansion from Yunus Emre Institute

Yunus Emre Institute keeps introducing the world to Turkish language and culture by promoting Turkish language, art and culture in different regions.

In line with its “2023 Vision” to have 100 foreign representative offices by the 100th anniversary of the Republic, the Institute continues its efforts at fast pace and has taken initiative to open a representative office in Tanzania.

A Memorandum of Understanding was signed on November 29, 2022 to establish cooperation between Yunus Emre Institute and Zanzibar University in Tanzania. Accordingly, cultural interaction with Tanzania will be increased through joint studies in many areas, primarily Turkish language teaching, and science diplomacy activities will be carried out.

Yunus Emre Institute President Prof. Şeref Ateş and Zanzibar University Rector Prof. Abdulqadir Othman Hafiz attended the signing ceremony held at the historical Ulus premises of the Institute.

A NEW TURKISH-SPEAKING COUNTRY ADDED TO EAST AFRICA

In his remarks at the signing ceremony, Institute President Prof. Şeref Ateş Stated: “Yunus Emre Institute has been actively weaving permanent cultural networks all over the world since its establishment. To date, we have reached over 15 million people through both cultural interaction activities and Turkish language teaching activities. Through our Cultural Centers operating in 6 continents, we continue to carry the Turkish language, Turkish culture and Yunus Emre's philosophy to all parts of the world, and we continue to carry out our efforts to increase the number of people who have ties with Turkey and are friendly to Turkey day by day."

Institute President Prof. Ateş continued: “We are very pleased with the interest in Tanzania in Turkey, Turkish language and culture. We will start language teaching activities as soon as possible to meet the people’s demand. In addition to our Turkish language courses, we will convey our country’s story and our people’s way of thinking to Tanzania in East Africa.”

TURKEY'S SCIENTIFIC CAPACITY TO BE TRANSFERRED TO TANZANIA

As part of the Turkey Academic and Scientific Cooperation Project (TABIP), carried out by Yunus Emre Institute under the auspices of the Presidency of the Republic of Turkey and aiming to increase Turkey's international recognition and scientific cooperation in the academic field, the Institute will also carry out science diplomacy activities in Tanzania.

Yunus Emre Institute, which carries Yunus' call for friendship and kinship to all corners of the world, will transfer Turkey's knowledge in the fields of science, art and culture to Tanzania through the activities it will carry out.
