Turkish Coffee Introduced in Argentina

Buenos Aires Yunus Emre Institute introduced Turkish coffee to Argentinians at an event organized as part December 5, World Turkish Coffee Day.

YEI Buenos Aires Coordinator Aydın Bayat mentioned the importance of coffee in Turkish culture in his speech at the event hosted by the Institute.

THEY LEARNED ABOUT TURKISH COFFEE CULTURE BY EXPERIENCING IT

The guests were introduced to the characteristics of Turkish coffee, its reflections in Turkish culture and its history. After the presentation, guests were offered Turkish coffee and Turkish delight. The event also included a demonstration of the preparation of Turkish coffee on sand and on the stove. The guests who attended the event both learned how to prepare Turkish coffee and served it to other guests.

TRAVELED 700 KILOMETERS FOR THE TURKISH COFFEE EVENT

Melina from Argentina said that she came from Cordoba, about 700 kilometers away from Buenos Aires, to attend the Turkish coffee event. Stating that she attended Yunus Emre Institute's online Turkish courses, Melina said: " This is my first time at the Institute, it is a very nice place. You really feel like you are in Turkey."

Melina said that her family history dates back to Turkey, that she herself had stayed in Turkey for a long time, she had visited many cities and she loved Turkey very much.

TURKISH COFFEE ON THE UNESCO LIST SINCE 2013

In the prize raffle held after the event, the winners were presented with the "Turkish Culture Agenda" prepared by Yunus Emre Institute to promote Turkish culture and a museum entrance card.

Turkish coffee was included in the Intangible Cultural Heritage List of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in 2013 and December 5 has been celebrated as "World Turkish Coffee Day" ever since.
