Yunus Emre Institute Signes the "Republic"s Name to the World on its 100th Anniversary

Yunus Emre Institute celebrated with great enthusiasm in all corners of the world the 100th anniversary of the declaration of the Republic by Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of the Republic of Türkiye, and his dear comrades in arms, in which the War of Independence was crowned with victory and a new era was started in the history of the Turkish nation.

Throughout Türkiye's 100-year strong adventure, the Institute has carried out "Republic" themed activities that leave a mark on memories by blending the ancient Anatolian culture and the Republic and the developing Turkish culture in various fields from history to literature, from theater to art.

AUSTRIA

"100th Anniversary Concert" was organized by the Embassy of the Republic of Türkiye and Vienna Yunus Emre Institute in Vienna, the capital of Austria.

Antakya Civilizations Choir took the stage at the event hosted by the historical Ehrbahr Palace, one of the magnificent architectural structures of Vienna. Representatives of Turkish institutions in Austria, diplomats and guests attended the program. Following the protocol speeches, a special selection prepared by the Antakya Civilizations Choir was presented to the audience.

AZERBAIJAN

The photography exhibition titled "Türkiye's Long Story: The First Century of the Republic" was opened in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan.

The exhibition, which was opened at the 29 October Republic Reception organized by the the Embassy of the Republic of Türkiye in Baku, was held in cooperation with Baku Yunus Emre Institute, Koç University, Turkish Historical Society, Anadolu Agency and VEKAM Library.

In the program, a mini concert was given by Azerbaijani Artist Gülyanaq Memmedova and Pianist Nergiz Aliyeva, organized by Baku Yunus Emre Institute.

BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA

The TRT film "Republic" was screened in Sarajevo, the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

In the program hosted by Sarajevo Yunus Emre Institute, the 1998 TRT film "Cumhuriyet" (the Republic), directed by Ziya Öztan, written by Turgut Özakman and starring Rutkay Aziz and Savaş Dinçel, was screened. The film was watched with admiration by the the people of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The film, shown with Bosnian subtitles, tells the story of Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and his comrades on the road to the declaration of the Republic after the War of Independence.

FRANCE

A photography exhibition titled "100s of Turks" was organized in Strasbourg, France, in cooperation with the Consulate General of the Republic of Türkiye in Strasbourg and Paris Yunus Emre Institute.

The exhibition, hosted by the Consulate General of the Republic of Türkiye in Strasbourg and curated by Mehmet Aslan, included 50 photographs. The richness of different regions of Türkiye was presented to the visitors from the frames of 25 Turkish photographers.

Following the recital given by Neyist Pelin Başar and Pianist Güray Başol, a gastrodiplomacy activity was organized and Turkish cuisine was promoted.

ENGLAND

Under the auspices of the Embassy of the Republic of Türkiye, the "100th Anniversary Concert of the Republic of Türkiye" was held in cooperation with the London Yunus Emre Institute and the London Chamber Orchestra.

The world premiere of Turkish Composer Yalçın Tura's piano concerto was held at the event held at Amaryllis Fleming Concert Hall. The music festival was led by Yalçın Tura's son, Composer and Istanbul State Symphony Orchestra Conductor Hasan Niyazi Tura. In the program, Yalçın Tura's new compositions as well as works by leading artists of the two countries such as Hasan Uçarsu, Ralph Vaughan Williams and Frederick Delius were performed.

SPAIN 

A panel titled "Türkiye-Spain Relations from Past to Present" was held in Madrid, the capital of Spain.

In the panel organized by the Embassy of the Republic of Türkiye in Madrid and Madrid Yunus Emre Institute, hosted by the National Library of Spain, historical and political relations between Türkiye and Spain were discussed by historians.

The panel titled "Türkiye-Spain Relations from Past to Present" ended with the concert of Turkish Musician Berk Gürman.

TURKISH REPUBLIC OF NORTHERN CYPRUS

Large-scale activities such as “100th Anniversary Concert" and "Anatolian Clothing Fashion Show from Principality to Republic" were organized by Nicosia Yunus Emre Institute within the scope of the 100th anniversary celebrations. 

The "100th Anniversary Concert” event hosted by the Near East University Atatürk Culture and Congress Center was organized by the “Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Türkiye, the Embassy of the Republic of Türkiye in Nicosia, Nicosia Yunus Emre Institute and the Development and Economic Cooperation Office of Turkish Embassy in Nicosia.

In the program,  "Allegra Ensemble Group", consisting of artists from the State Opera and Ballet of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Türkiye, took the stage. Allegra Ensemble Group presented an unforgettable musical feast to the guests, accompanied by violin, viola, cello, flute and piano instruments.

"Anatolian Clothing Fashion Show from Beylik to Republic" with the contributions of the Republic of Türkiye Development and Economic Cooperation Office (BSEC), Nicosia Yunus Emre Institute, General Directorate of Lifelong Learning and Bursa Maturation Institutes.

Two activities organized specifically for the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Republic of Türkiye attracted intense attention.

From Türkiye Woven with Iron Nets in its 10th Year to Türkiye Weaving the World with Cultural Nets on its 100th Year

 In his statement Yunus Emre Institute President Professor Şeref Ateş, used the following expressions:  “As Yunus Emre Institute, we are celebrating our 10th anniversary. We have woven the whole world with cultural networks on the 100th anniversary of our Republic, with the motto 'From Türkiye, which has been woven with iron nets for years, to Türkiye which has woven the world with cultural networks for the 100th year'. We carried the Turkish nation's core value, 'philosophy of life' and Yunus Emre's climate of peace to all corners of the world from the establishment of our Institute to the 100th anniversary of our Republic." 

Institute President Professor Ateş made the following evaluations:  As part of the 100th anniversary celebrations, we showcased the ancient Anatolian culture and the richness of the Turkish culture that developed with the Republic through various events, including exhibitions, interviews, concerts and workshops, in our nearly 90 representative offices around the world, in the international arena. We will continue to carry out large-scale activities with the theme of 'Republic' at home and abroad until the end of the year."
