Prof. Dr. Deniz Ülke Arıboğan, the dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Üsküdar University, has delivered a lectured as part of the Applied Cultural Diplomacy Training Program, organized by the Cultural Diplomacy Academy of Yunus Emre Institute.

Arıboğan touched on the recent global security policies and new generation of threats on the rise within the framework of the Wall Theory, an international relations theory masterminded by her.

Noting that walls had been built between civilizations as a defensive and protective structure, Arıboğan explained that walls played a major role in shaping the politics in the countries. She asserted that the walls built for security reasons between countries denote an imminent threat, drawing attention to the fact that walls function to reproduce and reinforce the concepts of "us" and "them" between countries or cultures.

In her speech, she argued that digitalization can be perceived as a global threat. "The digital world is teeming with an infinite amount of information including social media accounts. Some countries are trying to take it under their control, but we know that more than half of the world is active on the Internet. Technology has become all the more precious as it is essential both to tear down and reinforce the digital walls," she said.
