Azerbaijan Writers' Union Artistic Translation and Literature Relations Center has published the "Türkiye: Hikaye" (Turkey: Short Story) special issue of the "Dünya Edebiyatı" (World Literature) journal.

The new issue of the journal covered the Turkish literature on the 100th anniversary of the landing of Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of the Republic of Turkey, in Samsun on May 19, 1919 to start the War of Independence.

The selected works of 55 writers including the founders of the contemporary Turkish short story such as Ömer Seyfettin, Memduh Şevket Esendal, Refik Halit Karay, and Sait Faik Abasıyanık as well as new generation of literary figures such as Murat Yalçın, Mukadder Gemici, Mustafa Çiftçi, and Sine Ergün were published in the special issue. Most of these works were translated into Azerbaijani for the first time and Azerbaijani readers had a chance to meet the storytelling of famous writers such as Cevat Şakir Kabaağaçlı (pen name: The Fisherman of Halicarnassus), Rıfat Ilgaz, Yusuf Atılgan, Vüsat O. Bener, Adalet Ağaoğlu and Bilge Karasu.

Referring to the publication as a significant cultural action, Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ebülfes Garayev noted that it was a major contribution to the cultural relationships between Azerbaijan and Turkey. Azerbaijani Writers' Union President and People's Writer Anar Rızayev indicated that the special issue will further embolden the ties between the literatures of two countries.

The issue also included theoretical articles on Turkish storytelling, namely "Türkiye Edebiyatında Yeni Hikâyecilik" (New Storytelling in Turkish Literature) by Dr. Sedaget Gasımlı, "Dünden Bugüne Türkiye Hikâyesi" (Turkey's Storytelling from Past to Present) by writer Gismet and "Çağdaş Türkiye Hikâyeciliğine Bir Bakış" (A View of Contemporary Turkish Storytelling) by Sima Şefizade to bring the richness of Turkish stories to Azerbaijani readers.
