TABIP Lecture Series End with "Science Diplomacy Lectures"

The first TABIP Lecture Series were held at Istanbul University and Marmara University between October 14 and 15 to promote the concept of "science diplomacy" in Turkish academic circles within the scope of the Academic and Scientific Cooperation Project of Turkey (TABIP), conducted by Yunus Emre Institute under the auspices of the Presidency of the Turkish Republic.

The first event of the day was entitled "Science Diplomacy Lectures" and kicked off with the keynote speech by Prof. Dr. Ayşegül Komsuoğlu Çıtıpıtıoğlu, the dean of the Faculty of Political Sciences at Istanbul University, on the TABIP at the Blue Hall of the Rectorship Building of Istanbul University. Then, the floor went to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Özgün Erler Bayır, from the Faculty of Political Sciences at Istanbul University, gave a lecture on the birth and growth of the concept of "science diplomacy."

During the session entitled "Science Diplomacy Strategies with Case Studies," Dr. Olga Krasnyak, from the Peoples' Friendship University of Russia (RUDN University), who specialized in science diplomacy and diplomatic efforts for implementing it in a state's foreign policy agenda, gave a speech. In her speech, Krasnyak gave examples for the theories in the field.

In the second part of the program, a quiz show was held. The contestant gave their answers to the questions using the voting system and Sude Erdoğdu, the first grader at the Department of International Relations at Haliç University, came in the first and had a chance to chat with the TABIP team and lecturers.

On the second day of the TABIP Lecture Series, held at Ord. Prof. Dr. Nihat Sayar Conference Hall at the Rectorship Building of Marmara University, the lectures was moderated by Prof. Dr. Ahmet Kemal Bayram, from the Faculty of Political Sciences at Marmara University.

Following a short introduction by Furkan Koca, the Project Expert at the TABIP team, on the TABİP, Yunus Emre Institute and the science diplomacy activities held in Turkey, the floor went to Prof. Dr. Ahmet Kemal Bayram, who presented a paper entitled "Historical and Contemporary Perspective on the Relationship Between Science and Technology."

Then, Prof. Dr. Yusuf Baran, the rector of İzmir Institute of Technology, and the only Turkish member of the World Academy of Sciences (TWAS), delivered a lecture entitled "Importance of Global Interaction, Science and Diplomacy," and he was followed by Dr. Olga Krasnyak's lecture entitled "Science Diplomacy Strategies with Case Studies."

The first TABIP Lecture Series: Science Diplomacy Lectures ended after questions from the researchers who intent to study science diplomacy were answered.
