The South Korean students who had participated in the Turkish Folk Dances Workshop organized by Seoul Yunus Emre Institute last year have attended the sword and shield folk dance training course in Bursa.

As part of the event organized by Bursa Metropolitan Municipality with support from the Turkish Airlines (THY) and the Turkish embassy in Seoul, the dance team consisting of the students from the Turkology department at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies in Seoul, has paid a visit to Bursa to study the sword and shield dance.

South Korean students Kim Jun-hyeong, Kang Ju-won and Hwang Seung-jae, who had started to learn the sword and shield dance in the workshop in Seoul, and who had attended the Turkish speaking contest and Asia Short Film Festival, took part in the training sessions at the Tahtakıran Sword and Shield Dance Association's teams at Setbaşı Secondary School.

Having the opportunity to learn the traditional sword and shield folk dance in Turkey and visit historical and touristic sites in Bursa, the South Korean students stressed that they liked Bursa very much, falling especially for its food.

Metin Dikerel, the head of the association, indicated that their team had visited South Korea on October 29, 2019 for a show, after which the South Korean students expressed their interest in learning the dance. "We left our show materials there so that those students can be trained using them. We are working to reinforce friendship between South Korea and Turkey," he said.
