Science diplomacy efforts pay off

Science diplomacy efforts by Yunus Emre Institute, which conducts activities based on three main axes namely language, culture and art, and science and academy, has been paying off. Dr. Max Paoli, the Member of the Board of Directors of the World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) who had attended the Young Affiliates Network meeting, organized by the Institute in Istanbul in April 2018, has proposed to make Üsküdar University one of the Academy's Centers of Excellence for its work on neuroscience, brain and cognitive processes following his visits and talks in Istanbul.

In addition to its public and cultural diplomacy activities geared toward the promotion of Turkey, Yunus Emre Institute also undertakes initiatives with a view to promoting Turkey's academic, scientific and technological capacity and potential abroad and creating a pool of scientific and academic interaction.

TWAS Istanbul meeting paved the way

Thanks to the TWAS Young Affiliates Network meeting, organized by the Yunus Emre Institute in Istanbul, a Turkish university has had the opportunity to become the Center of Excellence of the TWAS for the first time. Dr. Max Paoli, the Member of the Board of Directors of the World Academy of Sciences who had attended the Young Affiliates Network meeting, organized by the Institute in Istanbul in April 2018, has proposed to make Üsküdar University the Academy's Centers of Excellence in Turkey for its work on neuroscience, brain and cognitive processes following his visits and talks in Istanbul. 

Dr. Max Paoli, who ensures coordination between UNESCO and the TWAS, had paid a visit to Üsküdar University where he was briefed about the university's activities, when he came to Istanbul to attend the TWAS Young Affiliates Network meeting, hosted by Yunus Emre Institute. Having examined the university's molecular biology, genetics, neuroscience and neurotechnology laboratories, Dr. Paoli chose Üsküdar University as the TWAS Center of Excellence in Turkey.

The doctoral students selected from among academics from developing countries and the applicants for UNESCO's call will be admitted also to Üsküdar University, which was been assigned as the Academy's Center of Excellence in Turkey.  

TÜBİTAK to provide financial support to students

Yunus Emre Institute and the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TÜBİTAK) has signed a cooperation protocol for conducting the Academic and Scientific Cooperation Project of Turkey and science diplomacy activities. The TÜBİTAK has developed a new sponsorship program open to all Turkish universities for nutrition and accommodation of the students who will come to the TWAS Center of Excellence in Turkey, which will contribute to the scientific prestige of Turkey. The TÜBİTAK will provide financial support to students who will conduct their studies at the laboratories of Üsküdar University under the supervision of scientists.
