Aşık Veysel's Timeless Works Leave Their Mark in the Memories of Spaniards

Yunus Emre Institute continues to organize various events in different parts of the world within the scope of the "Aşık Veysel Year" declared by UNESCO and the Presidency of the Republic of Türkiye.

The Institute added a new one to its list of events commemorating the great folk poet Aşık Veysel, who left permanent traces in Turkish culture in different geographies such as Argentina, Azerbaijan, Kosovo, Iran and Tanzania.

Aşık Veysel was commemorated on the 50th anniversary of his death with a concert held in Granada, Spain, in cooperation with Madrid Yunus Emre Institute and Andalusian Music Documentation Center.

In the concert given by Istanbul Technical University Turkish Music State Conservatory Director and ney player Professor  Ali Tüfekçi and microtonal guitarist Professor Tolgahan Çokulu, unforgettable works of Âşık Veysel such as "Kara Toprak" and "Uzun İnce Bir Yoldadım" as well as outstanding works of Turkish music and world music were performed.

In the opening speech, Madrid Yunus Emre Institute Coordinator Dr. Ersin Adıgüzel expressed his happiness to commemorate the great Turkish poet Aşık Veysel, who wrote about values beyond time and borders such as tolerance, humility, love for nature and creation in his works, on the 50th anniversary of his death, with valuable musicians, with the participation of distinguished listeners and in a wonderful place. He expressed his gratitude to those who contributed to the realization of the concert.

Ali Tüfekçi and Tolgahan Çokulu expressed their happiness for organizing such a meaningful concert and thanked Madrid Yunus Emre Institute and Andalusian Music Documentation Center for the organization.

Spanish artists and music lovers showed great interest in the concert, which was attended by Türkiye's Honorary Consul in Granada, Omar Fernandez.
