The National Heritage Day Event in South Africa

An event called “National Heritage Day” was organized by Johannesburg Yunus Emre Institute, where the cultural riches of Türkiye and South Africa were brought together.

 

Many people, including South African artists, art lovers and guests, attended the event hosted by the Institute on September 24th, 2023.

 

South African Music Group Performed “the 10th Year March”

 

On the National Heritage Day, where the unity of cultural differences was celebrated in South Africa, traditional Turkish handicrafts were introduced by Yunus Emre Institute and works reflecting South African culture were presented to the public. At the event, South African Akapela Music Group performed “the 10th Year March” specially for the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Republic of Türkiye.

 

Arts of Türkiye and South Africa Together

 

Stating that September 24 was celebrated as a national holiday by South Africans, “We celebrated this special day by bringing together different cultures together with South Africans. Many artists participated in our event, showed their skills and exhibited their art,” Johannesburg Yunus Emre Institute Coordinator Abdülaziz Yiğit said.

 

Institute Coordinator Yiğit stated that the artists focused on the arts of South Africa and Türkiye in the exhibitions they presented within the scope of the event.

 

South African Artist Alex Maswanganyi stated that he participated in the event with his drawings of cultural elements of Türkiye and South Africa.

 

Artist Maswanganyi said that he drew pictures of the President of the Republic of Türkiye, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, and the President of South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa, specially for today, and that he will continue to draw pictures that combine Turkish and South African cultures.

 

At the event called “National Heritage Day”, Turkish cuisine was introduced and the unique flavors of Turkish cuisine were served to the guests.
