Nobel Laureate Scientist Aziz Sancar in Baku YEE

Nobel Laureate Scientist Prof. Dr. Aziz Sancar visited Baku Yunus Emre Enstitüsü on June 13th 2017.

Sancar gathered with Azerbaijan Parliament Member Ganire Pashaeva, Azerbaijan State Economy University Vice Rector Elshen Bagirzadha, Azerbaijani academicians and Baku Yunus Emre Enstitüsü trainees.

Sancar, expressing his interest in literature, also spoke of his admiration for Yunus Emre. Sancar said, “My love for Yunus Emre is beyond words. Yunus Emre means to Turkish people what William Shakespeare means for the British people. Besides, Yunus Emre is a more profound and valuable figure. I have read many books and know many writers and poets but there is no other like Yunus Emre,” and read a verse from Yunus Emre's poem “Şöyle Garip Bencileyin”.

Upon audience members' questions about Nobel Prize, he said, “When I went to receive the Nobel Prize, I put on a Turkish flag pin and a tie with Ottoman signature. I do not only represent Turkey but all the Turkic world. I just paid my debt to Turkey and Turkic world.”

Sancar who signed memory book of Baku Yunus Emre Enstitüsü, emphasized the importance of making efforts and working to young Azerbaijani students who study in Turkish.
