South Africans Mobilize Help for Earthquake Victims in Turkey

South Africans brought the aid they have collected to Johannesburg Yunus Emre Institute, which was designated as the aid collection center under the coordination of the Embassy of the Republic of Turkey in Pretoria. The trainees of the Institute provided financial aid and prepared the collected aid to be shipped to Turkey.

Under the coordination of the Embassy of the Republic of Turkey in Pretoria; the Consulate General of the Republic of Turkey in Cape Town, Johannesburg Yunus Emre Institute, TIKA Pretoria Office and Arçelik/DEFY's facilities in Durban, which have been designated as aid collection centers, are overflowing with aid supplies from South Africans.

Turkish Airlines regularly transports tents, heaters, sleeping bags, blankets, power generators, health supplies and winter clothes donated by South Africans to Turkey.

Turkish Ambassador to Pretoria Ayşegül Kandaş stated that a significant amount of in-kind aid has been collected from South African and Turkish philanthropists and added: "As of February 13, the most urgently needed aid items have been determined as tents, sleeping bags, power generators, portable toilets and bathrooms. Clothing and food items are not accepted at this stage. We kindly ask you to follow our website and social media accounts for our constantly updated list of needs, aid collection centers and bank accounts to make donations."

Consul General of the Republic of Turkey in Cape Town Sinan Yeşildağ stated that 1,000 winter clothes, 250 blankets and 200 boxes of health supplies were shipped to Turkey from Cape Town and 50 tents, 50 gas heaters, 16 power generators and 250 blankets were ready for shipment.

SOUTH AFRICANS DELIVERED THEIR AID TO JOHANNESBURG YUNUS EMRE INSTITUTE

Johannesburg Yunus Emre Institute Coordinator Abdulaziz Yiğit stated that in the last week, South African philanthropists have delivered 493 tents, 100 power generators, 2,050 blankets, 7,000 pieces of winter clothing and 990 sleeping bags to the Institute to be sent to earthquake victims in Turkey.

JOHANNESBURG YUNUS EMRE INSTITUTE TRAINEES UNITED FOR TURKEY

Coordinator Yiğit stated that the South African trainees of Johannesburg Yunus Emre Institute personally worked in the packaging and transportation of the incoming aid and also provided financial aid. Coordinator Yiğit added: "Since Tuesday, hundreds of South Africans have flocked to our Institute with their donations. It is touching to see that South Africans share our pain so much from thousands of kilometers away."
