The "Struggle of Disabled People for Equal Rights: An Example from the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye" Event Held in France

In cooperation with Paris Yunus Emre Institute and the Turkish Delegation of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), an event called “The Struggle of Disabled People for Equal Rights: An Example from the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye” was organized in order to raise awareness about disabled individuals and equality in human rights through art.

PACE Turkish Delegation President Tuğrul Türkeş, Head of the PACE Ukrainian Delegation Maria Mezentseva, AK Party Istanbul Deputy Serkan Bayram, Paris Yunus Emre Institute Coordinator Dr. Celine Aydın, President of Turkish Disabled People Association Yusuf Çelebi, members of the PACE Turkish Delegation, MPs, ambassadors, diplomats and guests attended the event, hosted by the Council of Europe in Strasbourg, France.

At the event, where it was emphasized that disabled people should have equal rights, the film "Wheat Grain", about Deputy Serkan Bayram's life as a disabled individual, was screened.

In his speech at the program, Deputy Bayram talked about his life struggle as a disabled person to have equal rights with other people.

Providing examples of his work as a lawyer and member of parliament in Türkiye to defend disabled individuals and human rights and underlining that people who were once unable to become judges and prosecutors due to their disabilities no longer have any obstacles, Deputy Bayram added the following expressions to his statement: "Barriers to disabled people must be removed." 

In his speech, Yusuf Çelebi, the President of Turkish Disabled People Association, made the following assessment: "There is no disabled person, those who create obstacles are people and thoughts.”

PACE Ukrainian Delegation Chair Maria Mezentseva, in her speech, expressed her satisfaction with the issues of art, peace and equal rights being discussed together.

In her statement, Paris Yunus Emre Institute Coordinator Dr. Celine Aydın uttered that the event series called "Yunus Emre Institute Disability - You Are" was held worldwide.

At the conference titled "Struggle for Equal Rights of the Disabled: An Example from the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye", a call for peace was made, emphasizing disabled individuals and human rights. 

In her speech, PACE Ukrainian Delegation Chair Maria Mezentseva expressed her satisfaction with the issues of art, peace and equal rights being discussed together.

In her statement, Paris Yunus Emre Institute Coordinator Dr. Celine Aydın said that the event series called "Yunus Emre Institute You are without Disability" was held worldwide.
