Support for Earthquake Victims in Türkiye from Cairo Yunus Emre Institute

In the aftermath of the earthquake in Kahramanmaraş, which devastated many cities in the region, thousands of people from all over the world with ties to Türkiye have joined forces to provide material and moral support to heal Türkiye's wounds.

Turkish and Egyptian students studying at Al-Azhar University in Cairo, the capital of Egypt, came together at the Cairo Yunus Emre Institute on February 15, 2022 and recited the Holy Quran and prayed for those who lost their lives in the earthquake.

Cairo Yunus Emre Institute Coordinator Emin Boyraz, President of Turkish-Egyptian Businessmen Association (TÜMİAD) Nihat Ekinci and Dr. Cemal Faruk from Al-Azhar University joined the students who came together at the Institute.

EGYPT STANDS IN SOLIDARITY WITH TÜRKİYE SINCE THE DAY OF THE EARTHQUAKE

Cairo Yunus Emre Institute Coordinator Boyraz stated that Egypt has been in solidarity with Türkiye since the day of the earthquake.

Coordinator Boyraz said: "Egypt has sent aid with military planes immediately after the disaster in Türkiye. Many of our Egyptian brothers and sisters called us and expressed their desire to help us. Turkish and Egyptian companies with investments in Egypt are constantly sending aid to the earthquake victims under the coordination of our Embassy and TÜMİAD."

Boyraz added: “Boyraz added: "Our Turkish and Egyptian friends came together again today at Cairo Yunus Emre Institute to share our pain and pray for us. I would like to thank you all for sharing our pain on a day like this. May Allah accept our prayers."

"WE HELD TALKS WITH EGYPTIAN RED CRESCENT ON THE DELIVERY OF AID"

TÜMİAD President Ekinci stated: "We have received great support from our Egyptian brothers and sisters from the first day. In addition to messages of condolence and support, we are witnessing large donations from many philanthropists."

Ekinci stated that as TÜMİAD, they coordinate the in-kind and cash aids of Turkish companies located in Egypt and Egyptian companies exporting to Türkiye. He added:

"We held talks with Egyptian Red Crescent on the delivery of aid. In addition, our association members volunteered to identify students studying in Egypt whose families were affected by the earthquake and to offer them scholarships."

Cairo Yunus Emre Institute trainee İsra Cemal stated that she and her family have been following all the developments with sadness since the first day.

Emphasizing that they share the pain of the Turkish people and that the Egyptian people stand by the earthquake victims in Türkiye and Syria, Cemal expressed her condolences for those who lost their lives in the earthquake.
