“Symposium on Sufi Tradition in the Footsteps of Khoja Ahmet Yasawi and Sarı Saltuk” Held in Bosnia and Herzegovina

"Sufi Tradition Symposium in the Footsteps of Khoja Ahmet Yasawi and Sarı Saltuk" was held by Ahmet Yesevi University in Sarajevo, the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The symposium was hosted by Gazi Hüsrev Bey Library and in cooperation with Yunus Emre Institute, Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA), Presidency for Turks Abroad and Related Communities (YTB), Atatürk Higher Institution of Culture, Language and History, Institute of Islamic Thought, International University of Sarajevo (IUS), Institute of Thought, the University of Sarajevo and the Turkish National Commission for UNESCO. 

At the symposium Sarajevo Ambassador Sadık Babür Girgin, Yunus Emre Institute President Professor Şeref Ateş, President of the Islamic Union of Bosnia and Herzegovina Husein Kavazovic made the protocol speeches.

Mentioning that there are many studies about Ahmet Yesevi, whose name the university bears, and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Ahmet Yesevi University Professor Muhittin Şimşek used the following expressions: “Sufism scholars spoke with the language of the heart. Scientists said, 'The mind cannot understand what the hearth can understand' and they focused on humans. Sufism scholars were trying to spread the idea of 'Keep people alive so that the state can live' all over the world.”

Ambassador of the Republic of Türkiye in Sarajevo Sadık Babür Girgin stated in his speech that it was important to organize the symposium in Sarajevo, which has a strong Sufi tradition.

Stating that they are in a period when unity and solidarity are needed, Ambassador Girgin said, "Sufism appeals not only to Muslims but to all humanity." said.

Stating that Sufism has won the hearts of many people and that it communicates between people with spirituality and wisdom, President of the Islamic Union of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Husein Kavazovic used the following expression: "Sufism has improved the relations between people and always instilled hope in people's hearts." 

The symposium, which consisted of two sessions, was organized under the titles "Cultural Bridges from Transoxiana to the Danube Tribes: Paths of Sufism" and "Sufism as an Element of Cultural Partnership between Turkestan and the Balkans".
