“Uzun Hasan, the Ruler of the Akkoyunlu State Exhibition” Opens in Baku

The "Uzun Hasan Akkoyunlu State's Ruler Exhibition" opened in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan.

Items belonging to Uzun Hasan from the Istanbul Military Museum and correspondences and documents from the period obtained from the Presidential State Archives of the Republic of Türkiye are included in the exhibition organized on the occasion of the 600th anniversary of the birth of Uzun Hasan, the ruler of the Akkoyunlu State.

Cumhurbaşkanlığı Devlet Arşivleri Başkanı Prof. Dr. Uğur Ünal ve çok sayıda davetli katıldı.

The Advisor to the President of Azerbaijan Anar Alekberov, Ambassador of the Repubklic of Türkiye in Baku Cahit Bağcı, Yunus Emre Institute President Prof. Dr. Şeref Ateş, Baku Yunus Emre Institute Coordinator Selçuk Karakılıç, Head of the Presidential State Archives of the Republic of Türkiye Professor Uğur Ünal and many guests attended the opening of the exhibition held at the Heydar Aliyev Center with the contributions of Baku Yunus Emre Institute.

Turkish Ambassador in Baku Bağcı said that it is of particular importance that a collection in the Istanbul Military Museum is exhibited in the sister country Azerbaijan for the first time outside of Türkiye.

Reminding that this year marks the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Republic of Türkiye and the birth of Azerbaijan's National Leader Haydar Aliyev, "We are organizing an exhibition appropriate to the meaning of this bicentennial," Ambassador Bağcı said.

Yunus Emre Institute President Professor Şeref Ateş said that the opening of the exhibition of Akkoyunlu Ruler Uzun Hasan, who has an important place in the history of Türkiye and Azerbaijan, is very valuable in terms of revitalizing the "two states, one nation" understanding.

Stating that the preparations for the exhibition took a year, Professor Ateş said that moving the works from museums in Türkiye to Azerbaijan is an indication of the importance President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan attaches to Azerbaijan.

Institute President Professor Ateş made the following evaluations: “As Yunus Emre Institute, we will continue to support such activities to bring the people of the two countries together.” 

Head of the Turkish Presidential State Archives Professor Uğur Ünal stated that the Ottoman archives, which can be expressed as approximately 500 thousand notebooks and 100 million documents, are the primary source for the accurate writing of the history of the Turkish and Islamic world today.

Saying that the classification work of the archives was recently completed, Professor Ünal made the following statement: "Today, we had the opportunity to present some examples of records belonging to Ruler Uzun Hasan among millions of documents." 

The Uzun Hasan, Ruler of the Akkoyunlu State Exhibition, which includes 15th century miniatures commissioned by Uzun Hasan's son as well as works belonging to the Azerbaijan National Archives Directorate and Azerbaijani museums, will be open to visitors until January 17th, 2024.
