2nd Public Diplomacy Week Held in Seoul

The 2nd "Public Diplomacy Week," organized by Korea Foundation initially in 2018, was conducted in Seoul between October 24 and 26, 2019 with the participation of the representatives of international public diplomacy institutions and organizations as well as academics, diplomats, bureaucrats and media representatives specialized in public diplomacy.

During the event attended by more than 30 countries, numerous seminars, conferences, and workshops as well as cultural and artistic activities on public diplomacy were organized. In the discussions that focused on making positive peace around the world sustainable, the use of public diplomacy and soft power as a tool was at the spotlight of the 2nd Public Diplomacy Week. At Turkey's booth, jointly run by Yunus Emre Institute and Turkish Embassy in Seoul, the photography exhibition entitled "Göbeklitepe: Humans and Life" was launched and Yunus Emre Institute's activities in Korea and around the world and Turkey's place in cultural diplomacy were promoted. In addition, the guests who visited the booth were briefed about Turkish coffee and Turkish delight and offered traditional Turkish delicacies.

At the opening ceremony attended by Institute President Prof. Dr. Şeref Ateş, Korea Foundation President Dr. Lee Guen delivered a keynote speech and expressed his thanks for all participating countries. Following the opening ceremony, distinguished guests were briefed about Göbeklitepe in the company of Turkish coffee and Turkish delight at Yunus Emre Institute's booth. Institute President Prof. Dr. Şeref Ateş and the newly appointed President of Korea Foundation, Prof. Dr. Lee Geun, held a private meeting to discuss the opportunities for potential cooperation between the two stakeholders in public diplomacy. During the "Best Practices" session featuring the leading public diplomacy applications around the world in 2019, Dr. Melih Barut gave a lecture entitled "Innovative Approaches to Cultural Diplomacy" to describe the "Applied Cultural Diplomacy Training Program" implemented by Yunus Emre Institute's Cultural Diplomacy Academy. Following this special session, Prof. Dr. Şeref Ateş attended the short question and answer session to inform the participants about Turkey's efforts in cultural diplomacy.
