Common Heritage From Istanbul to Hejaz

The "İstanbul'dan Hicaz'a: Belgelerle Hicaz Demiryolları" (From Istanbul to the Hejaz: Hejaz Railway with Documents) event has been held in Amman, the capital of Jordan. Following the conference in which Prof. Dr. Azmi Özcan stressed the importance of the Hejaz Railway, the exhibition entitled "Hicaz Demiryolları" (Hejaz Railway), consisting of the documents and photographs from the Ottoman archives related to the railway which the Ottoman Empire started to build during the reign of Sultan Abdulhamid II, was held.

The event was organized under the auspices of the Turkish Embassy in Amman with cooperation among the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA), Yunus Emre Institute's Amman Branch and the Jordan Directorate of the Maarif Foundation of Turkey at Dar'at Al-Funun Gallery on Monday, June 24.

Ambassador Murat Karagöz delivered a keynote speech, pointing out that the historical railway was the common heritage of Middle Eastern peoples.

In the conference, Prof. Dr. Azmi Özcan talked about the construction process of the Hejaz Railway and touched on the benefits of the railway to the regions as well as the significance of the services provided to pilgrims.

The program was attended by the members of the Jordanian royal family, Minister of Transport of Jordan Anmar Al Khasawneh and heads of diplomatic corps and foreign missions.
