Common Values Hidden in Yeşilçam

The "Turkish Film Week," organized by Yunus Emre Institute to promote Turkish films around world, has brought 11 films, including documentaries, comedies, dramas, horror and action films to Belgrade, the capital of Serbia.

The film week was organized with support from Directorate General of Cinema and Dom Omladine Beograda (Belgrade Youth Center) under the auspices of the Turkish Embassy in Belgrade, and during its premiere attended by writer and scriptwriter Tarık Tufan, the director of the film "Anons" (Announcement), and film "Aşk Tesadüfleri Sever" (Love Loves Coincidences) was screened.

The film week featured not only successful Turkish films such as "Organize İşler 2" Magic Carpet Ride 2), "Türk İşi Dondurma" (Turkish Ice Cream), "Ahlat Ağacı" (The Wild Pear Tree), and "Unutursam Fısılda" (Whisper If I Forget), but also "Susuz Yaz," one of the masterpieces of Yeşilçam. Veteran Turkish actress Hülya Koçyiğit attended as a guest of honor to the "Homage to Masters" zone.

After watching the 1963 film "Susuz Yaz," together with the audience, Koçyiğit  talked about his experiences in the world of acting and answered questions from the audience. 

The veteran actress indicated that she had a chance to discover many common elements between the two cultures during her visit to Belgrade and these common values can be found in Yeşilçam's films.

Stressing that Yunus Emre Institute undertaken major cultural projects to bring the countries and peoples closer, Koçyiğit said that she was glad to see Serbian people's interest in Turkish films.

Following her interview, the Turkish Film Week ended with the screening of "İşe Yarar Bir Şey."
