Friendship Truck's Last Stop before Istanbul was Edirne

Friendship truck that set off from Samsun to bring Turkish Summer School students together with the people, arrived in Edirne, the last stop before  Istanbul. 9th of Culture Nights event series was hosted by Edirne locals. Travelling from city to city, Friendship Truck was warmly welcomed both by guest students and Edirne locals as in the other cities.

Program organised by contributions of Edirne Governorship and Edirne Municipality, took start as Yunus Emre Enstitüsü and Ministry for Turks Abroad and Related Communities students who receive training in Trakya University DİLMER and participate in cultural activities, welcomed the Friendship Truck.

Following the welcoming at Selimiye Mosque square, the symbol of Edirne and Mimar Sinan's masterpiece and various activities, the event organised by Edirne Municipality in honour of Yunus Emre Enstitüsü Turkish Summer School on the banks of Meriç River commenced. After the event, the group moved to venues of Culture Nights in Camialtı district near Eski Cami (Old Mosque). Edirne locals who filled Camialtı, welcomed 30 students form 15 countries with open arms. Before “I Compete in Turkish” event, each student greeted Edirne locals and Yunus Emre Enstitüsü and Turkish Summer School promotional videos were screened.

Received intense interest from both Edirne locals and local and national press, Piotrowski from Poland, Camille Nothomb from Belgium, Lea Kerin and Deniz Aleksiç from Croatia and Mohd Yasir from India. Audience enjoyed as Edirne locals took part in I Compete in Turkish competition and students answered questions on Turkish culture, history, art, grammar, and Edirne. Mohd Yasir from India came in the first place by answering 7 questions out of 10 right. Trakya University DİLMER instructors presented the students with prizes and a group photo shoot was held. Event ended after visiting students accompanied songs performed by Edirne locals.

Last stop of Culture Nights will be Istanbul. Friendship Truck will bring 540 students from 46 countries together with Istanbulians between August 22nd and 27th.
