Göbeklitepe's World Tour Continues in Rome

Yunus Emre Institute continues to promote Göbeklitepe around the world.

Another event has been held as part of the activities conducted within the context of the Year of Göbeklitepe. Yunus Emre Institute's Rome Branch has hosted the "Göbeklitepe: Rewriting Human History" program.

A panel discussion was held on October 21, 2019 with the participation of Deputy Minister of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Turkey Özgül Özkan Yavuz to promote the diverse aspects of Göbeklitepe within the framework of the activities organized by Yıldız Palace Foundation with support from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Turkey.

The panel discussion was moderated by Yıldız Palace Foundation President Prof. Dr. Zeynep Karahan Uslu, and the speakers were Prof. Dr. Bahattin Çelik from Iğdır University, Prof. Dr. Guilio Magli from Milan Technical University “Politecnico” and Göbeklitepe Excavation Coordinator Dr. Lee Clare from the German Archaeological Institute.

Following the panel discussion in which the historical significance and current impact of Göbeklitepe was assessed in depth, the photography exhibition entitled "Heritage of Time" was presented to the taste of the guests at the gallery of Yunus Emre Institute's Rome Branch. The exhibition featuring the photographs taken by Turkish photographer İzzet Keribar and Italian photographer Francesco Cicconi showcased Göbeklitepe with different perspectives, and the art lovers had a chance to listen to the musical recital containing Turkish and Italian tunes played by famed guitar virtuoso Ahmet Kanneci.

Ground Zero Of History With A Past Dating Back to 12,000 Years Ago

Yunus Emre Institute has launched several projects to promote the Göbeklitepe Archaeological Site in Şanlıurfa, which is one of the most important historical assets of human history, dating back to 12,000 years ago, after 2019 was declared as the "Year of Göbeklitepe" in Turkey.

As part of the activities to promote Göbeklitepe Historical Site, which was designated as the UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Institute has organized Göbeklitepe-themed "Turkey Week" events in Romania, Croatia and Serbia, the Turkish cuisine events entitled "12,000-Year-Old Adventure Of Wheat" with the participation of Turkish culinary history researcher and award-winning cookbook writer chef Ömür Akkor in Hungary, Palestine, Montenegro, Lebanon and the United Kingdom, and the "Children's Festival" events where Göbeklitepe-themed wooden toys were used in Spain, Croatia, South Korea, Qatar and Jordan. Within the context of promotional activities, the "Turkey Week" events will continue to be held in Georgia and Lebanon, whereas the "12,000-Year-Old Adventure Of Wheat" events will be held in Malaysia and South Africa.
