Turkish Films to be aired in 20 countries for moviegoers

Yunus Emre Institute, as the main engine of Turkey cultural diplomacy activities, conducts activities to increase the number of people who are friendly to Turkey in five continents around the world. Having undertaken many large-scale, prestigious projects, the Institute has come up with a new project that would serve to promote and strengthen the Turkish cinema sector. During the "Turkish Film Week" to be held in 2019 with the contributions of the Directorate General of Cinema, approximately 100 Turkish films will be aired in 20 difference cities around the globe.

Within the scope of the project, the Turkish Film Week events will be held in Albania, the United Kingdom, Croatia, Russia, Germany, Spain, Austria, Jordan, Lebanon, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Morocco, South Korea, Italy, Hungary, Romania, Kazakhstan, France, the United States and Canada. In these countries, moviegoers will have a chance to watch many Turkish films during for the entire week. In addition to film screenings, there will be talks given by actors, actresses, directors, screenwriters and producers and workshop on film-making as well.

First destination: Tirana

The first event under the project will be conducted in Albania's capital of Tirana between March 26 and 30, 2019 as the films "Ankara Yazı Veda Mektubu," "Sevdaların Ölümü," "Sarı Sıcak," "Ekşi Elmalar," "Güvercin Hırsızları" and "Bir Gün Bir Çocuk" will be screened.

During the Tirana Turkish Film Week, veteran actors and actresses of the Turkish film-making sector will make their appearances. Yeşilçam's veteran actress Perihan Savaş, starring in "Sevdaların Ölümü,"which will be aired during the event, and the TV series "Çukur," and Gürkan Uygun, who played "Memati" in once-popular TV series "Kurtlar Vadisi" and who are currently acting as Halil Halid Bey of the Turkish Radio-Television Corporation's (TRT) popular TV series "Payitaht Abdulhamid" will be meeting with Tirana's moviegoers between March 28 and 31, 2019.

Turkish Cinema on the World Stage

Yunus Emre Institute, which continue to work in order to make the Turkish cinema sector secure a persistent and influential place in the world, had organized the Turkish Film Week events in 12 countries bringing about 100 films to the global audience with support from the Directorate General of Cinema. The film screenings had made a great impact in the countries where the events took place, boosting the interest in Turkish films and TV series in the target countries. As an extension to the project, the Institute had also organized the Turkish Cinema Summer School in collaboration with Şehir University, hosting 23 young filmmakers from 20 countries for 15 days in Turkey so that they could see Turkey's know-how on cinema on the spot.
