Yunus Emre Enstitüsü that carries out operations to introduce Turkish language and culture to the world, distributed school bags to 10 thousand students in Jarabulus containing stationery supplies.

Bags prepared in Ankara were brought to Jarabulus cleansed of terrorists with Fırat Kalkan Operation through Karkamış Border Gate with the support of Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD) and were distributed to children in Jarabulus schools.

Ceremony took place in Sadık Handavi Elementary School, Ahmet Selim Mulla High School and Elafis Primary School located in district centre, and children were happy to receive the bags.

YEE President Prof. Dr. Şeref Ateş made a statement to AA correspondent, marking that the Enstitü with 50 centres in 40 countries and 100 liaison offices in different  universities all over the world, continues to raise awareness for humanity.

Reminding that Turkey has not kept silent as a state and nation in the face of humanitarian plight in Syria and has extended a helping hand to Syrian people through various government institutions, Ateş stated that Turkey conducts solemn and extraordinary diplomatic activities under the leadership of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to ensure lasting and ultimate peace.

“We took Ireland under our wings in the past, and today the Syrian people”

Stressing that the Enstitü makes efforts to duly carry out its task, Prof. Dr. Şeref Ateş spoke as follows:

“Turkey has invariably been a country with broad political and cultural borders. Cevdet Pasha once said, 'If Europe is turned over due to a revolution, the only harbour honest people can take shelter in is Devlet-i Aliyye (Grand State).' These words by Cevdet Pasha defines the main philosophy of our state that looks after all those oppressed. And I would like to add that a medal released in 1850, in the period of Sultan Abdulmecid, clearly establishes our historical and cultural mission. On the edge of this medal depicting an Ottoman castle battered by wild waves, writes 'protecting the oppressed'. We have never forgotten the other side of this medal. It is obvious that those who begin their words with 'What were we doing in Syria?' today, are unaware of our own history. Such that our state extends a helping hand to all, without discriminating based on religion, language and race. When a famine broke out in Ireland in 1845 and lead to death, sickness and migration of nearly a million people, Sultan Abdulmecid sent wheat to Ireland in ships in 1857. Protector of the oppressed, Turkish state that took Ireland under its wings in the past, today watches over our Syrian brothers and sisters.”

Ateş stating that they will continue to help victims of war in Syrian, continued as follows:

“As all government institutions serve in line with their respective goals, our Enstitü works towards offering a better education to Syrian children and youth with the authority granted by law and teaching them Turkish. In this sense, we distributed 10 thousand school bags to primary and middle school students containing stationary supplies in Jarabulus. We organised a series of events in recent months for integration of Syrian children and for them to not to feel out of place as well as the “Robotic Training Program for Syrian Children”. It does not matter if the world overlooks these efforts, and not include Turkey's name in the list of most charitable countries. We only answer to God and will never forget the other side of the medal.”

Student Shehed Mustafa who received stationary supplies, said that he loves his school and expressed his gratitude for the donations.

Emira Mualle said that they are happy to return to school after a long time and that they liked the stationary supplies.
