Yunus Emre Institute Opens Its Doors to Visitors in Mexico

Yunus Emre Institute, which has been working to open a cultural center in Mexico for a while, officially opened its doors to its visitors with a series of events.

In the program, attended by many guests from the art, politics, sports, and television communities in Mexico, Turkey’s Ambassador to Mexico, Timur Söylemez, cut the opening ribbon of the Turkish Cultural Center.

Citing that Turkey and Mexico work closely on many international platforms, especially United Nations (UN), G20 and MIKTA, Söylemez said that the two countries are a global brand in the field of culture and that Yunus Emre Institute is the right address to deepen cultural cooperation.

Noting that they were so glad that Yunus Emre Institute is in Mexico, Söylemez said, “We will be the host of every element related to the culture, from the Turkish language to history, from cinema to cuisine.’’

In his speech, Bernardo Aguilar Calvo, Director General for Europe of the Mexican Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that considering many problems in the political, economic, and social dimensions facing the global world, it is necessary to spread Yunus Emre’s philosophy of tolerance and peace to the world.

Cultural Center Director Salih Gültekin emphasized that ‘Let us meet, let us make it easy’ by Yunus Emre is the summary of their mission as an institute, and said, “Our doors will be open to all Mexicans with the culture and art activities that will continue throughout the year and the Turkish courses we will organize.’’

As part of the event, a rendered exhibition of Yunus Emre’s lines was presented to the guests, while local Mexican artists “Mariachis’’ added color to the program with their songs.

The Mariachis, who learn Turkish, received great applause from the audience, especially when they sang their songs in Turkish.
Yunus Emre Institute, which carries out projects in Mexico for those who want to get to know Turkish culture, especially Turkish, stated that they would organize various activities for the future.

At the end of the program, a rich menu consisting of traditional Turkish dishes and Turkish desserts was offered to the guests.
