Yunus Emre Institute's Arbil Turkology Summer School held in Malatya

Arbil Turkology Summer School, hosted by Yunus Emre Institute in cooperation with Arbil Embassy of the Turkish Republic and held at İnönü University in Malatya between August 27 and September 16, 2018, has ended. 14 students from the Turkish Language and Literature Department of Salahaddin University-Erbil (SUE) participated in the program.

Iraqi students improved their Turkish language skills and attended academic courses and seminars at the Turkish Education Center of İnönü University during the program. In addition to the training on the Turkish language, expert academics gave seminars on the old Turkish literature, new Turkish literature, Ottoman Turkish, history of the Turkish language, and the methods and techniques for teaching Turkish.  The students had an opportunity to attend various social and cultural activities and artistic events, in addition to the academic training, in order to know the Turkish culture, history, art, customs and traditions closely. They were also taken to tours around the city to get a glimpse of the historical and natural assets of Malatya.

Thus, they touched the cultural texture of the city in the Art Street, re-lived the spirit of the Ottoman and Seljuk architecture in Battalgazi, tasted local delicacies in Akçadağ, had a view of Levent valley at the observation terrace, felt the thrill of horse ride in Sultan Suyu, witnessed history, ate famous Arapgir grapes, drank purple basil sherbet in Arapgir, experienced the spiritual atmosphere of Somuncu Baba in Darende, and enjoyed the natural beauty in Gürün Falls and Orduzu Pınarbaşı. They were introduced to traditional Turkish arts of ebru (marbling), calligraphy, paper crafting, and relief, and given training on mountaineering and archery. The students sang Turkish traditional music songs at the Oriental Corner at the Teachers' Lodge, learning Turkish with fun.

The closing program was attended by İnönü University Rector Prof. Dr. Ahmet Kızılay, Rector Assistants Prof. Dr. Abdulkadir Baharçiçek and Prof. Dr. İbrahim Türkmen, Rector Adviser and TÖMER Director Assoc. Prof. Dr. İlhan Erdem, Rector Adviser Asst. Prof. Dr. Cemal Koyunoğlu, Yunus Emre Institute Iraq-Arbil Turkology Summer School Coordinator Oğuzhan Oğuztürk, İnönü TÖMER Deputy Director Asst. Prof. Dr. Bahtiyar Bahşi, İnönü TÖMER Deputy Director Lecturer Ali Selami Başoğlu, Lecturer Ersin Aycan, Lecturer Furkan Çelik and Lecturer Ömer Uyan. The program ended following the dinner and certification award ceremony.
