Brussels Yunus Emre Institute has launched the Workshop for Turkish Language Activities for Children in cooperation with the Turkish Studies Harmonization and Research Center in Ghent, Belgium.

So far, several events have been held in the Belgian cities of Lokeren, Antwerp, Brussels, Mons, Ghent and Genk to help kids improve their Turkish language skills. During the workshop sessions, kids were gifted with "Bilim Çocuk" (Science for Kids) and "Meraklı Minik" (Curious Kid) journals, published by the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TÜBİTAK), and they were provided with refreshments as they learned about Turkish proverbs and idioms through games and plays.

The kids aged between 5 and 12 years attended different sessions given by specialist teachers based on age groups, and they were given basic knowledge on scientific matters in an effort to arouse their interest in science and general culture.

Games and plays were used to help them learn about the selected proverbs and idioms found in the activities so that they can use Turkish correctly and fluently. The teachers also briefed the parents of the kids about Turkish language and education. The educational materials used during the activities were given to the kids as gifts.

Having implemented it in many cities across Belgium, Yunus Emre Institute's Brussels branch is planning to maintain it throughout 2020, and there are plans to roll it out to other regions and countries through Yunus Emre Institute's branches.
